Best fins for abalone diving

Fins give you the power to swim around in the Pacific Ocean when you’re on the hunt for abalone. You’ll have a tough time fighting against the waves and current without a good set of fins.

I recommend open-heel fins because you’ll be wearing bulky booties that would make closed-heel fins much harder to deal with. Also known as heel-strap fins, they are easier to put on and take off.

Outside of the wetsuit, your fins will be one of your most expensive pieces of gear. You get what you pay for, so read the reviews and get a solid pair.

If you want to get the most out of your fins and minimize your effort in the water, you’ll need to learn some technique. The first thing you’ll want to master is the duck dive. Here’s a video showing a duck dive .
